I was walking through one of Cook County’s Forest Preserves (Chicago area) and saw the back end of a snake as it slithered into the tall grass. Being a kid (this was a long time ago) I immediately stepped on the tail so that I could get a better look at it. Then released it just as quickly after identifying it as a water moccasin.
