In case you’re wondering if a baseball game like that is possible any more, let me tell you about local minor league and bush league games! The tickets and concessions are about a third of the price, you’re right there in the action, and you’re actually rooting for your own home town (or locality)!. I went to one as part of a company outing and it struck me how exactly it was like what my father and grandfather used to describe in very nostalgic terms.

And just as the player turns his head to find out who’s cutting the outfield grass, he gets hit in the head with a fly ball!

And there isn’t a bad seat in the house! I’ve been to many minor league games, from low single A to Triple A and they are wonderful. Plus, you get to brag if one of the players gets to The Show, that you saw him back when.

That team badly needs a new groundskeeper.

My first baseball game was a minor leaguer—Hollywood Stars in Gilmore Field. Now it’s high-end apartments and a higher-end shopping mall. But the old Farmer’s Market (1934) is still there and doing great !!
