    Don’t give up because your first attempt tanks! Everybody starts out like that. I’ve been doing software engineering professionally for over 40 years and my first attempt (in BASIC) looked just like that even when it finally worked.

    For the uninitiated, pre-ballpoint pens had to be loaded with ink and wiped off if too much was loaded on the tip.

    Reminded of having a local seamstress cut down a tablecloth that was too big for our table. I suggested she make matching napkins from the remainder. She misunderstood me and made napkins from the main part. At least I had a smaller table the remainder would fit.

    We had ink well holes in our desks, but, were in the ball-point years. Personally, for hand-written letters (yes, I still do that), I very much enjoy using fountain pens.
