Gothic isn’t so boring , even without buttocks .

Did you know that in the 19th century there was this Frenchman who set about restoring French gothic cathedrals built centuries before? (I wish I remembered his name.) Some of them were in dire need of restoration, but there was a catch. He restored them all according to a uniform model of what his books said a gothic cathedral was supposed to look like. Unfortunately, the actual cathedrals often had more variety in their designs, with lots of interesting quirks that the restorer removed.I guess gothic architecture IS boring…

I like Pig’s interpretation better than Goat’s. Flying buttresses, the name just stimulates the imagination. I wish I could draw.

Pig, you got to stop eavesdropping on conversations about members of Congress flying (aka flying buttocks) from their home to Washington, DC, and all of the vacation resorts on the taxpayer dime.

That must be one hairy butt to have tresses.

I really, really don’t want to look up someday and see flying butts. Unless it’s Trumps and it goes into a steep dive over the ocean.

Too bad, I was thinking Pig’s idea would make for interesting architecture.

That someone Pig was talking to was probably telling him about the Airlander 10 airship, commonly called the “flying bum” due to its buttocks shaped aft.

I thought Gothic architecture is the house Dethany from the comic “On the Fastrack” lives in!

I like big flying buttresses and I cannot lie….

To Stephen Pastis: are you ever fascinated by the conversations generated by your comic in the comments section? I mean they go all over the place and seem to stray far from the subject and/or joke of the strip.Or is it more satisfying to realize just how popular your work is?They baffle me!

At least Pig was trying to expand his mind this time.

Flying buttresses, essentially external bracing beams, were necessary to hold up large open structures like cathedrals because the materials of the day could not support heavy roofs any other way. Boring but true. Also, worked fine for hundreds of years.

There was scene in The 7 Year Itch with Marylin Monroe wearing a flying ¶ dress.

Pig has no feel for history. Gothic architecture is very interesting, if you have any awareness of your place on “the Timeline” of this reality….
