Amazing, I actually used this quote yesterday on my plumber. He put together some drainage piping in a wall which would be hidden. It would function fine. He then sawed it out to do over to make it look more professional even though no one would see it.
The famous Russian saying is “better is the enemy of good”. In engineering it implies that insist on improving mechanisms that are already adequate and it is quite true. The F35 fighter comes to mind as an excellent example of a device that is so complex it cannot be flown without the aid of complex computers for a task of which we have no need. Fighters have served no purpose since WW II.
