I am a female and OMG I hated working with some of the people I did over the years as they put way too much on. A tiny spritz on wrists and same for neck and that’s it ladies.
Those of us with allergies cant stand scent, perfume, hair shampoo, laundry scent and I wore a mask at work way before it was fashionable. I had less trouble at the barn than at work
OMG, I have allergies and I HATE when people dump so much perfume on. Especially when you are trapped with them like at a concert. The worst is going out to dinner and being seated near such an offender! I want to smell my FOOD, not YOU! Luckily, in these days of social distancing, my dreams have come true.
After the first or second application of a cologne or perfume, the person’s olfactory senses become accustomed to the odor and tricks the brain into ignoring it. The person – because they can no longer smell the cologne or perfume on themselves, believe they need more and more of the stuff until eventually, it seems like they’ve bathed in it!
They don´t realize that just because they can’t smell it, the rest of the world can!
In my last job we had a younger guy that absolutely swam in some stink. You could tell he was in the upstairs office when you walked in the front door downstairs (with several closed doors between).
Because of him I took to buying cheap painters masks (which turned out to have a N95 rating!). I would wear those while working just so I could breath. Sadly, I’m not sure that anyone else in the office understood why I started doing that. Hell, they made him a first level manager shortly before I left… damn glad I didn’t end up working for him, that would have sucked.
And, conveniently, I still had a couple of the masks in my tool bag when COVID became an issue… that’s when I noticed the N95 rating.
Years ago I had a boyfriend who didn’t like the smell of the inexpensive scent I sometimes used. So he bought me some really lovely perfume that both of us liked.
I work retail, and the other day I was helping my coworker who was running the register and bagging, when a customer’s perfume? really strong lotion? clouded the whole area as she came up. Suddenly talking was hard, and I was trying not to choke… at least masks hide one’s face for situations like that.

If she’s wearing That much perfume, her eyes should be watering, too.

Perfume gives me a headache. I wouldn’t even sit with her if I were Baldo.
