Not exactly transformed like some thought. (Much easier this way, though. No complicated incantations, potion mixes, or other such things needed – just pull back the hood.)
At least we don’t have to wait until next week to find out where she is. Now Olwen just has to explain how Wigglesworth and Vesper are living happily ever after while most definitely not being dead!
It’s such a bold move to have a huge transformative event involving so many main characters and not setting it up to be undone as if it ever happened. As is often done in fantasy and science fiction. I think this storyline could excite Puck in Breaking Cat News even more than a major plot twist in “Our IX Lives”!
Can’t wait until next week to learn Vesper and Wigglesworth’s fate.
That said, I googled “ghillie suit” and it turns out they can get awfully hot even under normal Earth conditions. Perhaps Clover invented some way of magically wicking it off?
Well that’s interesting. So should we assume that the triplets were eight when the strip started and Clover three? I’ve pointed out time has passed in the strip. Had figured, based on events, that the strip began late summer to early fall of 1940. From there we see the strip progress through a Halloween (implied by the decor, the fact that they appear to be making candied or caramel apples, the costumes on the kids, and the old razor blades in the apples story) and into winter where we learn the reason behind the name Swan Eaters. Then we move in to spring of 1941 (suggested by the flowers returning to the fields after the winter’s snow melts away. The guy with the Jumbo Rex rat who told Pilot of the German invasion I’d figured was doing so in the summer of ‘41, probably in July 1941 as that was when Operation Barborossa began. And from there we see it return to fall as we see the characters having to bundle up once again. And we see fallowing leaves. By that time I’d have figured the kids at least had aged a yead as I believed that the triplets were ten and Clover five at the start of the strip. Then we had the Christmas Arc, which was moved to fall at Christmas, which I expected closed the first full depicted in the strip. Then we moved through the winter of ‘41-’42 and are now in mid spring to early summer ’42. So with the time that passed I was expecting them to have aged up to two years. Now Olwen is saying Salem and Clover are now the same age. Does that mean they were two years younger when the strip began?
I’m glad Clover is the same age as Salem and Peter now – they seem really the perfect fit together as triplets rather than Ivan – whom I sure hope has learned a few things while he was in the fire world. And the ages of the younger characters are in the family tree that’s on the bottom of the Cast page.

Oh Ivan, I’m sorry you had to pay such a high price to learn this lesson. (And I hope you have learned this lesson.)

Ivan learnt a hard lesson in humility there.

Clever, not spot coloring Clover’s eyes until this panel.

And poor, sweet, but forgettable Peter. At least he is big hearted and forgiving.

I should have known it was Clover by the red eyes :))

/sigh of relief
I was wondering what had happened to her!
