Good description Nelson. Opal and Earl do this often. Talking to each other, but neither one is listening. Happens to couples sometimes that have been married as long as they have. You may find out some day.
My mom had very consistent taste about her clothing, more as she aged. She wore a dress and flat shoes; wore an apron often. The fabric colors and patterns were easily recognizable. Perhaps not so oddly, her taste was very like her mother’s. When gramma was in her 80s and mom was in her 50s or so, they were sometime confused for each other. If either of them found something “exactly the same as what she was wearing” she’d quite likely be pleased to buy a spare
I know people like this. We’ve neighbors, three sisters. When they get going, and there are only two of us trying to listen, yes, it’s like three tv shows at once. Actually there are five sisters. The other two are married, but all live within a few kilometers. Birthdays and holiday meals are indescribable.
When I was a kid, we would go to my grandmother’s house and all Mom’s sisters and brother would be there. They would all talk at once and somehow they would all hear each other????
Then Pearl said, “Opal, put your top back on and let’s go home.” Unfortunately Earl, they give a maximum of about 14 years then break your heart, again, again, and again.
There are a couple of old guys that sit at the counter at the Cafe. If you get lucky enough to sit between them you have to look forward, lean your head right or left to acknowledge.

Note that Earl first calls the dog a “She” and then a “He” . . .

Opal was not talking to you, Nelson, she was talking to Earl. Earl was talking to you so he didn’t have to agree with that inane story.

That’ll happen when you tear open an package of malathion, Earl.

It’s two conversations talking with my husband-mine/his. We are hardly ever on the same page.

Earl’s story was more interesting, although Opal had a strong finish.

Judging by Earl’s conversation, I don’t think he was wondering, Opal!
