Malcom Gadwell wrote about Blues Clues in his book Tipping Point and talked about the psychological research that went into making that show “Sticky” for kids. On the one hand it was an interesting study in how to “design for the customer” as it were. On the other it was an example of how to addict kids to a TV show and the subsequent advertising.
I made a Blue’s Clues VHS tape (without ads) for my youngest, then passed it on to a neighbor when he got older. Ten years later it came back to me for my grandson. Several years later my granddaughter started watching it. It’s still in the bookcase for the next kid. (Yes, I still have a working VCR.)
Just today came across a news item that Steve is selling his Brooklyn house for 3.4 million https://www.dwell.com/article/blues-clues-steve-burns-brooklyn-real-estate-a6a733d3

Hey, Mom just said she can’t WATCH Blue’s Clues on TV. She didn’t say she couldn’t read Blue’s Clues books or play with the other Blue’s Clues stuff.

I knew I was watching too much Blues Clues with my son 20 years ago when I had a dream that Steve came in a space ship to take me away (not kidding)

Her voice is going to be tired when her mom gets back since she’s just yelling “Blue’s Clues”.
