Partisanship aside, I’m with Aikman and Buck on this one. I can think of many, MANY areas where our tax dollars would be better spent, especially during our current public health crisis and economic emergency.
These flyovers cost quite a bit of money – usually into six figures. Do you think that a Tampa food bank (or Meals on Wheels, or emergency free clinic) could put $100,000 to better use than just burning up jet fuel?
Let the TV networks run a clip of SecDef Esper or GEN Milley saying, “Instead of doing flyovers right now, we’re spending that money on community grants to help Americans through this rough time. The money that would have paid for today’s flyover has gone to [insert local recipients here]. We’ll get through this together, and we’ll see you soon.” I’d be COMPLETELY on board with that!
(I’m a Nth-generation veteran who doesn’t need to watch expensive flyovers, overproduced flag displays, and overly theatrical performances of the national anthem every Sunday…)
Originally the Military paid NFL teams to play the Star Spangled banner and have a flyover. Teams would not care if it was paper airplanes as long as they got paid!

Just cancel the teams and let Troy Aikman and Joe Buck call a fictitious game. Nobody at Fox would notice.

Will we someday soon see the Fall of Troy?
Doubtful. As usual, statements such as his and of that leaning get a pass.

His first name isn’t Troy. It’s Halloffamer Troy Aikman.

Making that paper meant trees had to die. Bad move, NFL.

Fun fact: North Korea and Russia dearly love holding military displays.
