I used to spend two weeks out at the lake with some of my nieces and nephews. It would get dark and they were afraid of the dark because they were young and, hey, we’re all monkeys at heart. But when they said they were afraid of monsters, I would tell them I was a monster. Then I would go out in the dark and pretend to be a monster.
I’m not sure if that helped, but for whatever reason, none of them are afraid of the dark anymore. Maybe that’s because they’re all in their thirties now…? But maybe not — I’m 55 and still afraid of the dark myself!
