Only one year did I ask for something specific and that I didn’t need a birthday present at all just this one for Christmas. I know it cost a good amount of money (New Polaroid Instantcolor camera). It was a lot of money back then. My parents said are you sure and I said “Oh yes”…..and again said and nothing else. Well of course, they felt bad with only one so they got me some of the other stuff they knew I wanted and my grandma went bonkers on gifts for me. As she always made up for those "combined birthday/Christmas presents other relatives gave me. She hated it.

I have stopped buying gifts for anyone. Just give them money or gift cards. Wrap them up with their favorite candy or gum and that makes a package under the tree. These are always very appreciated.

    All I want is books

Problem is that most of my list is out of print books which means finding them first

    Cash is easier

Sometimes you can’t win. Had a family member and gave them an actual gift and they returned it for cash. Next year, gave them a gift card. They said “you didn’t go shopping and this isn’t very personalized.” Go figure.

I’m surprised that Gabby didn’t take a page from Lucy in Peanuts: (1) in tens and twenties, (2) real estate.
