My Granny never measured anything. My sister went through a phase of sitting with a notepad and trying to measure things as she made stuff. She’s a bit annoyed that I managed to replicate her egg noodles and she didn’t :) Though I still think Granny kept a secret in her fried chicken and gravy!
My mom made delicious short ribs in gravy. She gave the recipe to my wife (also a great cook), but clearly changed something. The short ribs my wife made, though just as delicious, were completely different (and I know my wife used the recipe my mom sent).
And ads between every one-sentence paragraph. And the annoying video of some other recipe in the lower right corner. And then just as you’re about to see what might be the actual recipe, a popup demanding you subscribe (with no clear way to close the window).
This really should be “Cookbooks then, Cookbooks now” because the recipe’s probably the same. There’s one definite reason and one very probable reason. One, you can’t (or it’s very difficult to) trademark or copyright a recipe, but you can copyright your own words/stories if you right a book. And two, it’s probably a lot easier to pad a book out if for every recipe there’s another page or two of story instead of having to come up with double or triple the number of recipes to sell a book of adequate length.
As others have said regarding cooking blogs online, it’s also better to have a longer post so you can fit more ads in. There are also people that read lifestyle blogs for the stories, too, and may or may not care about a particular recipe, I guess.
5 pages later, Finally! then an ad pops up and you don’t get to see the recipe again because you have to sign over your firstborn child 2 cows and a goat before you can.

And then it goes on to say how to make them gluten free, with vegan oil instead of butter, make them with tofu………….

I present you with Grandma’s Corn Pudding, which she tells me came off the side of a Jiffy Mix box many many years ago. http://tudza.org/20181122.htm

Don’t forget all the high rez pictures of the biscuits from every angle, then pictures of the ingredients, then of the kids and the pets.

I tried to follow my mother’s recipe for biscuits. I am still trying to get them fluffy.
