I’m the age of sail, one of the first things that apprentice seamen made was a hammock, along with a sea bag and a ditty bag. This was so they could learn sail stitching.
I grew up along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. They have some rolling hills there that put proof to this joke. Dad used to be able to get some reduced gravity effects by careful acceleration over the humps. It’s good that the hills are exciting because the ocean, protected as it is, is much flatter and less interesting than the Pacific Coast. The coastal plain is so flat that, as a small boy, I could wade out into the water a quarter-mile. Of course, whenever there is a storm, the ocean would come in at least a quarter-mile. There is a traditional joke that mildew is the “State Flower”.
When I was a kid, we had a camper on the back of the truck. My cousin and I rode in that camper (can’t do that now) and we went to a lake that had a road just like that. I know Horace’s feeling all too well.

If Horace lived and drove in Pittsburgh, he’d be seasick all the time.

I get a chuckle from TV ads that show vehicles driving on watery beaches. If I did that, I’d get arrested.

I & P sign = rest stop, without Outhouse? Can’t figure any other reason the I sign has been knocked over.
