Used to go to the capital city and roam the stores with the parents. The icing on the cake was the biggest store that had a whole floor of toys. It was on the 7th floor and the ride up on the escalators was always a thrill. Then to top off the night, a trip to the Mr. Peanut store to see Mr. Peanut and get a couple of bags of freshly roasted ones.
I remember my Mom taking me to the toy departments at the 5 major department stores in downtown Philly. One of the monorail trains from the Wanamakers toy department is on display at the Please Touch museum. Brought a tear to my eye when I saw it there. The Wanamaker organ (now Macy’s) is still played today, and the fountain and light display, as well as the Dickens Village can still be seen.
when the comic doesn’t show up for whatever reason, I click the back arrow to the left of the date and then click on the right arrow to the right of the date and the comic magically shows up!
The malls here opened for business when I was about 8 years old. Before that the shopping was downtown, & during the season it was brightly decorated, with a lot of hustle & bustle & bells ringing.
When I hear Silver Bells in my mind’s eye I immediately see that again.

Aging Nerd that I am, I went to see “Frozen”. It wasn’t at all what I expected.

Hmmm…not quite the same thing as a brisk day on Michigan Avenue in Chicago, seeing all the stores decorated and the music playing…
