I have to agree with Frazz. I don’t stay up to ring in the New Year, but when I get up in the morning it’s a new year.

It’s always just past midnight SOMEWHERE !!

My girlfriend and I were at a New Year’s Eve party with a lot of our friends back when the year was due to roll over from 2015 to 2016. We had them all primed to repeat the countdown as it came across the TV from the ABC-TV broadcast from Times Square (delayed by one hour for our consumption in the Central Time Zone). But that was the year the network decided not to do the delayed broadcast for us rubes in the hinterlands, so when it became apparent that what we were seeing was the live broadcast at about 1:02 AM New York time, we made everyone in our party do a countdown anyway, at the end of which I dropped onto a knee and offered up the ring.

Do I hold a grudge against ABC-TV to this day? Oh, yeah!

If history is any kind of indicator, you’ll be in the same grade and same age next year.

Well 2 hours and 15 minutes is a difference!

James Bond accomplished many things in that time!

If I ring it in with my friends in the UK I can be done at 6PM.

Amazon usually has a countdown “for kids” that you can play anytime

Have not been able to stay up to see the ball drop for decades, but will be looking for reruns of this unique celebration. Any empty Times Square? Wonder how they’ll air that? Maybe show it split screen with crowd scenes from other years. Definitely not business as usual this year.

I never understood this new year’s folderol. I will be in bed regular time, NLT 1900.

It’s no big deal now, but when I was that age, I always stayed till midnight on New Year’s Eve, and it was a very big deal. Partially because my parents parked me with my grandparents, and I loved it there. My grandpa would grab pots from the kitchen, and we’d walk up and down the street banging pots.

I hide indoors. I’m too worried to sleep. Midnight is when the local freedumb folks celebrate by shooting off their guns straight up in the air. It’s been a few years since they’ve hit anyone, though.

I don’t do much for NYE but I did watch them ring in the year 2000 around the world. I’m not sure which network it was but there was one anchorman who reported it around the clock. That was tough. I did not hold out for the whole 24 hours like he evidently did.

The main difference is how many people are shouting.

And I remember when the TV stations stayed on later to show the New York New Year— normally they went off the air before then.

Yeah, that’s us. We used to have NY Eve parties that lasted into the wee hours. Now it’s a struggle to make it to midnight eastern time (and we live in the midwest). (:-)

I lost interest in it decades ago.
