We we have his snow this morning. It came on top of a layer of freezing rain over sleet. First real snow of the season and first of the new year. About 1.5 – 2 inches right now and it is still coming down.
We never get a huge amount of snow where I live. When I was in elementary school 2" was enough for a snow day. By the time I was in high school that was maybe a two hour delay, and that was only if the roads hadn’t been treated the night before. The rare 6" still sends everyone into a panic and the supermarkets get emptied out.
No snow here, even in the air. So far. Usually our weather pattern puts the coldest days within several weeks of the winter solstice, so there’s still time. But even in the 30 years I’ve been living here, I think I see a trend toward not so cold… which is sad but not surprising. And it’s not science, its anecdotal.
Back in November a local meteorologist predicted that the weather patterns are looking like we’ll have a lot of snow in December. Well we got one storm of 15" (which has already been washed away by rain) and a few dustings (a dusting around here is less that 2"). I think their weather models need updating.
BTW why are they called meteorologists when they mostly talk about rain and snow showers and not meteor showers? Shouldn’t they be called precipitationologists? ;-)
I like to tell the little ones, “When I was your age, the snow came up to here on me.”, while motioning around my hip.The quick witted, will figure out that when I was their age my hip was a lot closer to the ground.

With it’s hills, two inches of snow will shut the greater Seattle area down. Many panic over ‘Snowmageddon’

It’s been here and gone. At least it didn’t last long enough to turn gray and black.

There are some districts that have said they will have snow days, remote learning or not.
