No they don’t, dogs are open books. What you see is what you get. I never knew what my cats were thinking..or going to do for that matter.

    Today is:

National Hero Day. Annie is a hero to those ten cats, even if there are a couple cats who will never admit it.

National Pepper Pot Day. National Pepper Pot Day commemorates a dish that earned the nickname “the soup that won the war.” The observance takes place annually on December 29th.The winter of 1777 – 1778 was brutal. The Continental Army was fighting for the newly formed country of the United States of America during the Revolutionary War. As they camped at Valley Forge on December 29th, 1777, George Washington asked the army’s chef to prepare a meal that would boost their morale and warm them. The chef rounded up some peppercorn, small bits of meat, tripe and other ingredients. He called it Pepper Pot Soup, also known as Philadelphia Pepper Pot Soup. The troops received the meal well, and nicknamed it “the soup that won the war.”

Tick Tock Day. Tick Tock Day, observed annually on December 29th, reminds us to complete any unfinished business that might need addressing before the end of the year.

As the end of the year approaches, there are some things worth considering. Unfinished business usually needs to be wrapped up before the end of the calendar year. Things like larger business purchases and charitable donations for the tax year may need to be transacted before December 31st.

It is also my niece, Michelle’s birthday. The oldest of my nieces & nephews – it’s hard to believe she’s now 43. I don’t feel much older than that myself.

About my car trouble yesterday. I called my mechanic this morning and he said I should call AAA again and get my car towed up there (he doesn’t have a tow truck). He said until he got a look at it, he couldn’t be sure whether it was the battery or the starter or something else. So, I called AAA and after a very long wait on the phone, they told me they were still trying to reach a tow service and I should hang up and wait for someone to call me back. After a couple hours (or maybe a little less than 2 hours), there was no call, so my mechanic called me and asked if I had an update on the tow service. I told him no. So he came down here just to give my car a listen. One turn of the key and he said it was the battery. So he went back to his garage and came back here with a new battery and he put it in. His garage is about a half mile from here, so it was a quick repair. Even though I had strong doubts that any tow service ever actually was dispatched to me, being a nice person, I called AAA again and after another long wait for a person to answer, I told them to cancel the tow service because my issue was resolved.

He’s a brat cat, but a clever one we all love. Calvin, not Hobbes. Yesterday it snowed for 6 hours, and we ended up with about 4 inches! That’s a lot for us! Spent the morning watching those big beautiful flakes come down.

Annie is giving it back equally to Chesney for once. He may escort her (or threaten to) to the Loading Dock.

This has nothing to do with todays’ strip but I thought I’d pass on some heartwarming news.

My friend, who’s been dealing with the poor kitties that get mistreated by her rancher neighbors, trapped several more. She got them all up to Best Friends. Three of them are black kittens. BF said nobody wants to adopt black cats and said she should either put them down or turn them back out into the horribleness that they came from. She refused.Jupiter, Cassidy and the other one (cannot remember the name) are all doing great. One had to have its leg amputated but gets around like nobodys’ business. The 4th one, Patch, is a little older but settling in. (She’s not black) So, my friend is back up to having 7 house cats. She has a huge two story house so none of them are cramped. The entire upstairs is just for kitties and her workout equipment. Her most recent rescue, Arlo, gets a bit miffed with his nose out of joint but mostly he’s ok with the new ones. (Arlo was a kitten who escaped the ranchers and fell off of the back wall and hurt his leg about 2 yrs ago. He’s the spitting image of Moosie)

One big male that she trapped is called Creamy because his fur is that color. It’s taken 2 yrs for him to trust my friend and her husband. But now, he’s there each morning, lets them pick him up and love on him. They tried having him in the house but he wanted out too much. There are about 5 more that still need to be trapped and fixed. I’m still buying three 30-35 lb bags of food every three weeks as my contribution. That and toys. The outsiders LOVE mousies and balls so I keep ordering them from Amazon.

Chesney should resolve to stop being such a jerk. (Especially to Annie.) On another note, saw a wren and two varied thrushes while out walking today.
