And sadly, the vaccine does not prevent you from catching or spreading the disease. All it does is help prevent you from getting sick from the disease.
In other words, masks ain’t going nowhere, probably for a long, long time.
But get your shots anyway! Just know that it’s only the first step.
Evolution in viruses involves mutations/changes in DNA or RNA in the virus. Most mutations do not change them in any significant way. A change in a virus in one place does not change the virus everywhere else. It’s okay to be concerned about the virus mutating – but not a good reason to panic.
When everyone desiring to be vaccinated, has been, we won’t need to worry about spreading the virus, as it will then be no more dangerous than other commonly spread viruses. Right now it’s potentially deadly, but once vaccinated, it’s just a common cold. Keep up the fight, there is an end in sight.
If the virus changes the antigens by which our immune system recognizes it, then the activation of our immune system by the version of the vaccine we received will be useless. Our bodies will just have to start over recognizing and fighting the new version, or we will have to get more/new vaccination shots, like with influenza.
If you have checked the vaccination protocols, people like some of us with allergies to the contents of the vaccine are contra-indicated to take it because of the possibly serious adverse effects of the shot itself. The protocol here is to have you sign up, come in, and then be informed that you should not get the vaccine. Cute. Meanwhile, you have exposed yourself to possible infection by making the trip.
Oh, well. We only live so long. Having already lived several decades, there was never a guarantee of living a few more.
The use of the media to frighten and manipulate people, to make money through sales of advertising, and the effort to frighten people for political gain, are simply unethical abuses of a difficult situation.
More versions of the virus may be good for “Big Pharma”, though. So it goes.
Get one of the vaccines if it is OK for you, wear masks and be clean to reduce spreading whatever versions of the virus show up in your area, and get on with what’s left of your life. As someone once remarked, you will never get out of life alive… :)

Many more will follow.
This is, as they say, the “long haul.”

“ A change in a virus in one place does not change the virus everywhere else.”
True, but the problem is that the mutated virus can spread, so it eventually does appear everywhere else.
“ It’s okay to be concerned about the virus mutating – but not a good reason to panic.”
I wish more people would realize this. Panic is never a good solution for anything.

Viruses mutate to survive, so do humans, just not as quickly as they do, to our collective dismay!
