Speaking of slow work days, here in Clark County, Washington, the grocery store I work at had to close early last Saturday and Sunday because of the heavy snow. I was even the last available person in my department Saturday to gather carts who wasn’t snowed-in (luckily two more from the same department came Sunday so I could be relieved). Now things are getting back to normal as the parking lot is maneuverable to walk in.

But most of us appreciate a slow day every now and then… And some of us have jobs where that never happens.

A slow day at a job like that usually drags on, while a very busy day can pass quickly.

I love this strip when there is meaningful interaction between father and son. It gives me hope.

Funny, the factors that can influence a situation like this. Many years ago I was a proofreader at a very large NYC law firm, and often there wasn’t a lot of work on the day shift. But we knew the firm kept us on full-time status because the workload was unpredictable; sometimes we were very busy.

A few years later, I relocated and took a similar job in a much smaller place. When I was hired, there was a real need. But a recession kicked in, and from day one I found myself with very little to do. I was gone in a month.
