I haven’t bought anything from amazon in years. I quit when I found out they were coercing booksellers to do it their way. AFAIK, they can go sit on a helically cut inclined plane.

I thought Sears, Crazy Eddie,Kmart,Walmart killed the small Mom/Pop stores decades ago. Besides a majority of goods sold on Amazon are from independent retailers.

Sorry, Bezos. This quote, from “The Prisoner of Zenda”, was first said by a man who thwarted a plot to prevent a true coronation from occurring, not a man who made himself a king by bankrupting everyone else in the kingdom.

I’m old and can remember when people bought from Wal-Mart because things were made in The U.S.A. and can also remember the old advertising jingle, “Look For The Union Label”. Now people complain about cheap shoddy quality goods made in China, etc. Who do you think caused that? Look in the mirror bargain hunters , , , ,/S

This same thing was said about the neighborhood dry goods store when the catalog companies like Sears came along. Sears contracted manufactures to make their store label products, like Kenmore, Craftsman, Autolite, etc, and then took over those companies. They created and marketed Allstate Insurance, and even had an automobile you could buy from their catalog. Were they sued for antitrust? No, they had Wards and Penney’s and others as competition as does Amazon have competition now. But for a time, as Amazon is today, Sears was the dominant source of goods.

Bezos seized upon an idea using the internet and made it work most successfully. But before Bezos, Sears, who had the market, decided in their own board room in their new Sears Tower that the internet was just a fad and didn’t pursue it. After over 100 years it didn’t take long for them to fold.
