BIG NATE AND THE MURDER MYSTERY: PART 1

Nate, Teddy, Francis, Chad, and Dee Dee are walking to school in their pajamas. Today is the “School Sleepover” event, when students come to school and sleep there until tomorrow morning. It is currently 7:30 PM, and the sun is nowhere to be seen. Everyone is excited, except Nate, who was forced to attend by his dad, Marty.

Chad: Oh boy, everybody! This is going to be a blast! Sleeping at school!

Dee Dee: Yeah! How do I look in my superstar pajamas?

Teddy: You look as stylish as a star can get, Dee Dee!

Francis: Nate? Are you excited too?

Nate groans as he is slouching. He remembers what Marty said about the sleepover event, saying that it will be a fun experience to “connect” with new people.

Nate: Ugh… not really…

Teddy: Come on, Nate! Why the long face? The “School Sleepover” event will be loads of fun!

Nate: I doubt that… I don’t want to go to school anytime of the year, and sleeping at school? That’s a new low…

They arrive at their school and walk inside it, paying their admission. People are chatting with each other, all of them wearing pajamas. There are striped pajamas, colorful pajamas, and superhero-themed pajamas.

Chad: Wow! I know this is going to fun, I know it will!

Francis: Yeah, right Nate?

When i first took a quick glance at the strip, I thought it w as rerun.

They really should let a new artist do a new strip that’s all theirs, but they won’t, because the old one is in x number of newspapers, and they don’t want to lose those newspapers.

Mr. Peirce must have heard that Mark Tatulli gave Hear of the City to Steenz, so that’s what inspired todays strip.

Just look at Ginger Meggs which has gone through five writers in its one-century run; current one has been at it since 2007. I feel the same way as Nate about his Knuckles and Peapod when I used to read Heart of the City originally done by Mark Tatulli until he retired in 2020 (though he still continues Lio) and let someone else with a different art style take the mantle.
