We have a bird-bath heater. Kind of like those things that you saw for sale back in the 60s or so that you could use to boil one cup of water, but made to sit flat on the bottom, protected by a perforated metal shield. We plug it into a serious extension cord that’s plugged into one of those thermostat outlets that turns on when the temp drops below 35º F or so. Most of the time in our climate, it stays turned off, but if we do get a serious freeze, the birds (and squirrels, and coons) can still get a drink.
Just what was he trying to do? If it was because the truck would not start maybe he should check to see if the gas tank is empty. Anyone got a match or lighter for him to use?
Uh, my PhD is in history, so science is not my thing, but will running an electrical current through a piece of ice thaw it? In my ignorance that seems a little doubtful to me. Not that I read Non Sequitur for the science. That’s why the good Lord gave us the Sunday strip in Brewster Rocket.
More than 300 people in the pro-Trump mob have been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 attack designed to stop the counting of the electoral votes that elected Joe Biden to the presidency.

As part of the socialist liberal pogrom by the administration to Cancel our Culture, police arrested over 300 heroic Patriots who expressed their First Amendment Rights while attempting to protect the integrity of the electoral process at the Capitol on January 6th.
We have a heater in our bird bath, it keeps the water about five degrees above freezing. During the big ice storm, birds were coming to the bath and warming their feet
Power company legend has it that back in the early days a couple of guys would go though the neighborhoods with a transformer on a horse-drawn wagon and charge residents a fee to thaw their pipes. They would connect the transformer to the pipes and then climb the nearest pole to hook it to the primary. Supposedly after thawing, one customer refused to pay until they threatened to reverse the wires and freeze him back up again.

From the look of that pickup, he might have been trying to use the birdbath to start the truck.

And why is it that they do not have to cook dinner?

Not sure I agree, I have cleaned bird baths before, for my Grandmother years ago, and I don’t think I would eat anything that was boiled in one.
I’m wondering how many guys may try this, because they saw this cartoon?
I wonder how many batteries will blow up, because water conducts electricity?

If there was a next panel, she’d probably give him the bird.

Constantly focusing on the bright side can blind one to the actuality of many situations.

Hmmm. I wonder how that system would on grackles?
teagirla almost 4 years ago
Maybe he tried to turn the birdbath into a wet-cell battery? That would kill any birds but render them inedible due to the acid.
mistercatworks almost 4 years ago
At most he would have electrolyzed the water, which is rarely lethal.

Any connection in that truck for squirrels or did they already chew the wires?
Richard S Russell Premium Member almost 4 years ago
If that’s an all-metal bird-bath, it’s truly grounded and shouldn’t be thawing the water at all.
