Gumball wizard. No cover charge. A hit and a miss at the same time. Now that I look at it, I see the amazing difference between the football uniform of Bozo days and today.
2. LOL. FoXo was a genius! Great one here. They went in store and when coming out it was raining. And Bozo Uncle Benny’s regular customer!
3. Ah the old confuse them with a decoy trick. And Bozo falls for it.
…
It always a fun Friday with these fabulous fun funnies called BOZO!
Created by the tremendously talented FoXo Reardon who may be lesser known but was in no way any lesser than any well known great cartoonist, BOZO is a rare gem from the past that remained unknown to many for so many decades.
A true master cartoonist FoXo Reardon not only never needed his characters to say a single word to tell his funny tales, he told his funny tales through his delightfully splendid drawings that created great scenes in each panel as if we is watching photographs of a three dimensional cartoon world of realistic-looking depths and details.
This is why me calls this an excellent epitome of picture speaking thousand words, one with most excellently exquisite artwork and scenes and subject matters executed excellently. Tell me in how many other comics have you come across such sheer brilliance?
And all the drawings and details done by FoXo with his own hands. No computers back in those days. Just pens and papers, and especially with pens as while most cartoonists use a brush to ink in their pencil drawings, FoXo used pen which is more difficult to use and master.
Ad especially when comics is an art, a medium of expression of subject primarily through artwork, the fact that BOZO uses only artwork and artwork alone as the medium of expression. I say if BOZO is not a great work of art then nothing is.
And only a true professional and splendidly skilled cartoonist can create something with this sort of fantastic finesse. FoXo was indeed born for cartooning and he was one of the best of the best and most professional of cartoonists ever. If you looks at his life, …
Remember those chewing gum cigars we used to buy at the penny candy counter? Maybe Bozo has been chewing gum cigars all the time and we didn’t know it. We nearly always see a cigar in his mouth, but have we ever seen smoke rising from it?
BOZO 1- Our Hero sacrifices his pleasure (of chewing gum) to save his city finances on a leaky fire hydrant. BOZO 2- Wow so impressed with Foxo and his ability to tell a story of a rainy day in the city 4 panels telling a story. Even putting in Poochie getting soaked, and Fuzzy in the background of the 5&10 cent store with his umbrella open inside the store, while Bozo loyal to Uncle Benny’s Pawn shop. BOZO 3- Bozo is such a “valuable player”, from being a half back on kick off (?) to tackling a blocker….a lot of Yellow Hankies going to be thrown. No biggie, Fuzzy is cheering Our Hero on every play.
Gent, your comments today about my dad never having taken an art lesson brought me back to a comment I made a few months ago which I find appropriate to again repeat here:
Strip #1 reminds me of an event that my dad, Foxo Reardon, attended with a good number of other cartoonists. There was a large audience of cartoon fans present, and each cartoonist was asked go on stage to address the crowd. A very large paper pad was placed facing the audience in case any cartoonist wanted to make a drawing with his comments. My dad and another cartoonist decided to make a joint appearance and make a presentation to the audience in regard to what they learned in art school. My dad addressed the audience by noting that he never attended art school. The other cartoonist then said he nevertheless wanted to relate what he learned in art school. “First of all,” he said, “I learned to make a horizontal line,” using the pad to demonstrate, “and then I learned to make another horizontal line,” placing the second line beneath the first line by about a foot. He continued, “I then learned to make a vertical line,” crossing the horizontal one on the pad, “and then I learned to make another vertical line,” placing the second line about a foot to the right of the first vertical line. He then made an X in one of the squares, and dad placed an O in another square, and within a few seconds dad had beating him in a game of Tic-Tac-Toe. The audience was still laughing when the next cartoonist came on stage to make his appearance
2) Interesting social commentary with a joke. All types of people go the drug store, just men go to cigar shops, mothers and children shop at the five and dime, but poor Bozo is alone at the pawn shop.

1 Bozo seems to have switched from smokes to chewing gum
2 Customers hesitant to leave the shelter of the store. Bozo hocked his umbrella. Umbrella Guy making sure his stays dry.
3 Other than that it was a perfect tackle. Right Bozo?

1• Thanks danketaz, for the clue.
2• It appears as if nobody patronizes Uncle Benny except Bozo.
3• Just tackle somebody. Anybody!

1) Fortunately, Bozo was chewing gum for just such an emergency.
2) Poor Bozo, not even the dog wants to stay under Uncle Benny’s sign.
3) Nice tackle, but next time, tackle the man with the ball!

2) Bozo could have been also at the Union Cigar Store. But they might be cheaper at Uncle Benny.

1) WASTE OF WATER DRIP-BY-DRIP: Bozo notices that a drip is coming from a fire hydrant. He improvizes a means to shut it off himself!
2) A TINCKLE IN A TRICKLE: During a slight rain Patches had to go to the hydrant!
3) SLEIGHT OF TACKLE: Bozo was sure he tackled the right man but not. Was it a hand off?
