I know a lot of fans of certain clubs always think the refs have it in for them. I have a friend who is a Lions fan who swears that the refs make every call against them, particularly if they are playing a popular team like the Packers or Cowboys. For what it is worth a ref could change the outcome of a game with a flag thrown here or another flag picked up there in the NFL or in MLB squeezing the strike zone for one starter, ringing up a batter on called strike 3 that should have been ball 4 or doing the opposite and not giving a pitcher the called third strike even if it was thigh high and down the center of the plate. In a nutshell all fans think the refs are on the take if a call does not go their way.
Your friend is absolutely correct about the Lions. It’s so bad that they actually have the “rules” named after the players or coaches that those “rules” affected. i.e. “The Calvin Johnson Rule”.
My great uncle would tell stories of the time when the NBA played in Syracuse and Rochester and Buffalo and Fort Wayne. Those teams moved on to eventually locate in Philadelphia, Sacramento, Houston and Detroit.

Shouldn’t that be “very much surprised”? (Since surprised is plainly a participle and not an adjective.)

They are most biased against the teams their bookies and/or the CCP tell them to be biased against.
