Once took a trip to Ellis Island and Liberty and went up on the top deck securely holding my young nephew’s hand. I looked around at th mass of people, none of who were speaking English and we were ladened with tote bag and back pack. It made me feel as I imagined new arrivals to this country felt – all their belongings on their backs and not speaking English. I still get chills thinking of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis.
It’s “unfortunate” that today we too easily give away our “personal liberties” for (instant) gratification, fitting in (being woke or PC), or because it’s “too hard” to fight for them (or “earn” them). …
