I studied Spanish in high school and in college, even had a Spanish-speaking girlfriend for a while. However, after many years my Spanish is the kind where I realize 24 hours later what I should have said. My stepdaughter once asked me to communicate in Spanish with a little girl who spoke no English at a birthday party. The little girl looked at me in a weird way but I thought that was just what little girls do. Anyway, 24 hours later I realized I had asked her to “call herself her mother on the telephone”. Oh, boy.
Oh, come on Mom, Monty Python insults everyone. Of course, my mom found it rude and insulting, and we were end-times false prophecy Baptist. Happily, I found out I could still get smacked by my mom as an adult when I said that. I am not one now. Still, I was Wit the 178th signal Company with the US Army in Heidelberg, Germany 1978-1981, and Monty Python was something many of us looked forward to Sunday nights. So much so that I was in a check-out line behind John Cleeve at a High-end grocery store in Santa Barbara I had to thank him.

It’s the Spanish Inquisition, because no one expects the Spanish Inquisition.
