Having had 3 beagles and still dealing with one (I love) who is a champion hunter, I can so relate to this! If I told you some of the things I have pulled out of her mouth or prevented her from picking up you would be off your food for a long time. The last one was a real doozie. Looked like mulch. Wasn’t.

Face it, dogs would eat air, if they could keep it down :)

Lacking hands with sensitive fingers, curious a dog will take something in its mouth to identify it, much the way a human will hold it it its hand. And yes, the question the dog seeks to answer is likely “Can I eat this?” and the methodology is “I won’t know until I try.”
