His own worst enemy…

Principal Spittle, what a great name. I bet he just drools in his office all day waiting to give out detentions.

That’s the first time I ever recall hearing the principle’s name. Mr. Spittle?

I was in the 4th grade before i had a principal who was that easy going. The 4 before that were far more into punishment and threats. They also never seemed to last more than a year before they left the school. Don’t know why that was, but it was always an adventure getting to know the new principal every year

And off he goes to “The Calvin Zone”…

Calvin is the only kid who can go to the principal for going to the principal

Never heard a word, as usual

No wonder! He lives in a world of post traumatic stress.

…..and Calvin spaces out again.

Calvin is certainly very imaginative but Bill Watterson feels that even Calvin couldn’t imagine Hobbes. He once said in an interview about Hobbes, “I suspect he’s more real than any kid could make up.” This shows that he saw Hobbes as part of his own mature imagination rather than Calvin’s immature imagination and I think that this shows in the comic strip.

Does not take much for Calvin fantasy, he did not hear what Principal spoke.

There is definitely something wrong with that boy….

Calvin’s time in the Principal’s office might be extended…

Apparently, Zorgs have really bad eyesight…

I have done this to many authority figures even decades after the fact – well done [not medium]. It is surprisingly therapeutic.

You’d think he’d recognize a “reality break” by now.

Once again Spaceman Spiff snatches defeat from the jaws of victory!

You have to be specific. Calvin is paying attention; but it is to his imagination

spaced out calvin = SPACEMAN SPIFF!!!!!

I often pictured Principal Spittle having the voice of the late John Stephenson, who voiced characters like Mr. Slate in “The Flintstones,” Fancy-Fancy on “Top Cat,” Mr. Arable in the animated “Charlotte’s Web,” and several villains/incidental characters in “Jonny Quest” and “Scooby-Doo.”

Calvin almost never imagines other people to be anything but enemies.

I’m going to go out on a limb, here; and guess that Calvin has a squirt gun in his pocket…

The lesson only got through to one of them.
