One of my cousin’s cats will be EXTREMELY clingy when she gets home from a trip. “It’s been two weeks, where have you been???” She says that if he was a human, she’d get a restraining order.
I got a dog from the shelter once. She had a collar on with a small piece of broken twine attached to it. At first, whenever we would go somewhere she would go nuts, banging on the door and windows, trying to get to us. We figured that she had been abandoned somewhere, tied out with thin twine, knowing she could break it. She had some other odd habits initially, too. Like licking your feet before coming in, and looking backwards at you before she would bark. Finally she got over it and was once of the best dogs. Miss her, she has been gone years now. :(
I have had lots of kitties who were like this. Some people call them velcro kitty but I’ve often said they were codependent. They follow me everywhere and often get underfoot. When I’m gone longer than usual they give me the silent treatment for about a half hour and then they’re all over me. Don’t you ever leave me again!
I had a Char Pei that was this way. Went to visit my brother, took her with us. She chewed through the door jamb while we went to dinner. Few years later the then Mrs and I divorced. She kept the dog as I was not able to. She died soon after. SO I am told by the then Mrs she stopped eating and would not come out of her bed.
Our foster fail, Jelly, had very bad separation anxiety. When we took her to be spayed, they called half an hour later for us to come get her. She’d thrown up and peed all over the place :( We worked on it for a few weeks, putting her in a soft crate with Mum’s two pups, and the next time worked.
10 years later she still gets upset if we’re away for more than a few hours. Three weeks in Perth two years ago was a doozy!
I can tell when my upstairs neighbors are gone because their puppy barks and cries for most of that time. In this case, unlike protecting the home, the dog is announcing that the home is empty. lol
Today strip what we go through little different then Roscoe. Mama and daddy leave for garage sales so daddy can make money selling, when they leave the dogs become depressed/despondent and just lay around.

You can’t buy that kind of loyalty Earl. No way.

Around here, most of the “clingy” happens in the clothes dryer.

I thought Roscoe was more independent than that…

Maybe this is a “timing” problem. Is “Lassie” on TV now?

Well, there are catlike dogs who don’t give a damn unless they aren’t fed on schedule.

They know that if they aren’t in the hunting pack, they are going to miss a meal.

Roscoe misses Earl’s pearl of wisdom remarks that he always likes to react to.

Some breed of dogs are very needy. A Golden Retriever always wants attention, for example.
