RJ is literally the LAST one who should be taking that "fetal steps’ shot.

How big is his TV again?

By comparison, that dome tent almost certainly contains fewer of the comforts of home.

For some reason, I read that as “fatal steps”…

The neighbor’s camper is pulled around by a pickup truck. It’s massive!

Not even steps. A crawl, or maybe a scoot.

Why go camping if there’s no place to plug in your curlers?

I’ll lay on the ground if I must, but my iDevices must be fully charged!

Charging cords are today’s umbilical cords.

I remember backyard camping with the portable TV in the tent.

I dislike having to build a fire before I can have any coffee.

A little stormy weather and that fetal outing will be aborted.

I come from a family where we pick campsites by how FEW amenities it has. A flat spot to pitch our tent and a fire ring is just fine. We would even bring our own camp toilet! We would collect the wood, build the fire, cook our meals, wash the dishes, etc. outside (we used eco-friendly soap even 50-60 years ago). My husband’s family’s idea of roughing it, however, is not having a chocolate on the pillow when he gets to his hotel room! (Well, not really that bad, but it was the joke between us) When they went on vacation they did stay in the best hotels. When we got married, we kind of sort of compromised. More closely to what I was used to though – mostly because we couldn’t afford expensive hotels. And sometimes we couldn’t even afford cheap motels. That’s when my experience came in handy. We did have a BIG van I got from a friend and it had lots of floor space. So we got some big pieces of foam, covered them with a sheet, put them on the floor of the van, brought pillows and lots of blankets. We had a tent that wasn’t good enough to sleep in, but was good enough to change in and it had a fly that we could tie to the van so we could walk between the van and the tent without getting soaked if it rained or we could sit under it for shade if it was hot and sunny. We would park in a camping area that had a picnic table, cover the table with a cheap oil cloth tablecloth, use a Coleman stove to cook on, and we both would have a good time!

Considering that RJ survives on processed foods … I’m not sure which is the kettle and which is the pot.

First time I went camping, the wife and I were at where an old mill and then nightclub in upstate New York had burned down. They turned it into a campground. We parked by the base of the fall, had the roast chicken we bought at a deli, slept in a doubled up sleeping bag on the hood of her 72 Mustang. Second time we stayed there, was in my VW Thing. We upgraded to a tent, and a small grill.
