Wow, a comic that can be offensive to a large number of people without mentioning an ex- president by name.

If PMS is what I think (a women issue) all that water can be useful.

Back when I had to wear pads to catch menstrual slough off, instead of pee, I never felt PMS coming on.

That was for everyone else around me.

Who seemed to become extremely annoying at a given time every month.

Couldn’t she just have said, “I think I’m going to be seasick?” Isn’t PMS just a tiny bit sexist?

I’m a bit unclear why you save a flare for a dire emergency. What does it accomplish? I believe you fire a flare to attract attention to yourself, so it is pointless unless you think there is a ship/plane in the vicinity which might see you. Perhaps he thinks it summon a genie?

I can “see” the humor, and as someone who joked with his wife of 34 years (recently deceased) about it. If you are aware and “smart” you know what to do. Love them and listen. It is nature and it is not fun for anyone. My wife was almost “done” with it but never got there. Take care and realize this is temporary.

As a female with five sisters and four daughters and who attended an all-girls high school, I am quite willing to laugh at myself and other ladies. PMS is real. It gave me the urge to say what I really thought! :) Smart husbands, boyfriends and fathers learn to monitor and be patient.

For those who are not familiar with it, PMS (premenstrual symdrome) is a very common condition, affecting more than 90% of menstruating women. PMS symptoms start five to 11 days before menstruation and typically go away once menstruation begins. Most researchers believe that it’s related to a change in both sex hormone and serotonin levels at the beginning of the menstrual cycle, when levels of estrogen and progesterone are increasing. An increase in these hormones can cause mood swings, anxiety, and irritability. However, the symptoms of PMS are usually mild or moderate (although the intensity may vary from month to month). According to the American Family Physician Journal, nearly 80% of women who have PMS have only mild symptoms, which do not affect their daily functioning. About 20% report moderate symptoms that do affect some aspect of life; only 2-5% report severe symptoms (PMDD—premenstrual dysphoric disorder) which make it hard to function. It’s interesting that people tend to focus on how this problem (which is very specifically a female problem) affects men.

I had to look at the last panel twice. Actually, I thought my misinterpretation was funnier: that the woman’s PMS was the flare, and came from her.

As some have mentioned, this is the approved distress flag (at least in the USA)…in color, it would be black shapes on an orange background. Nothing to do with the Alpha flag and divers…

Orange Distress Signal Flag for Boats

The distress flag must be at least 3 × 3 feet with a black square and ball on an orange background. It is accepted as a day signal only and is especially effective in bright sunlight. The flag is most distinctive when waved on something such as a paddle or a boat hook or flown from a mast.

Some women are affected by PMS and can be irritable. But many males are affected by an uncontrollable sex drive and they are much more dangerous to be around than a bitchy woman.
