Saw a house cat confront a mama duck once. It was the last time that cat, and a good sized house cat she was, did that. The mama duck with outstretched wings and loud quacking attacked the cat and sent it running. After that, whenever the cat meet the duck. The cat turned around and went the other way, fast.
Chasing squirrels is not a boring thing for cats and dogs. They’ll get tired after awhile. So will the squirrels. They might be nesting somewhere and they just hate visitor popping up at it. Just make sure the squirrels stay out.
The other day there must have been 6 or 8 gray squirrels chasing each other all around the backyard. Skipping the rest of the details, let’s just say there may be lots of young squirrels running around the neighborhood in a few months.
My Dad’s cat likes to go outside for walks, as I have mentioned before, on a leash and the main reason he likes it was he likes to chase the squirrels, chipmunks and birds around. He was a stray before Dad took him in this past winter so I think he got use to doing that so he has to continue, Dad won’t let him get too close and has never allowed him to catch them.

I have yet to see a bored cat. Disgusted, unimpressed, condescendingly amused but not bored.

Grab it by the tail as it runs past and direct it to the yard.
