If the playwright Aeschylus (arguably the father of Classical Greek Tragedy, c. 525/524 – c. 456/455 BCE) had been reciting aloud as he worked on theatrical dialogue, maybe he wouldn’t have been killed by that falling tortoise. (In the middle of an empty field… where he had retreated in hope of thwarting a prophesied death-by-falling-object.)

That is, if words could actually create big puffy protective balloons overhead. The course of staged Drama was altered forever. (I’m guessing that thought balloons are less effective as barriers.)

If his death seems fantastic… there was recently a case of bloody head injury to a woman when a tortoise crashed through the windshield of the car in which she was a passenger.

Also bloody shell injury. The good news is that both human and chelonian recovered

So is the joke that they don’t stop talking because their words won’t hurt them and the words are deflecting the sticks and stones that are about to hurt them?

If the capricious afternoon breezes are picking up rocks that size, they might be near Houston.

Is this a new speech bubble joke, or has someone at some point done it before?

I see speech balloons are impervious to the wind.

When he received a paper cut from a radioactive comic book, Jerry Jerryson developed the incredible ability to turn his words into physical speech bubbles! He decided to use his power to protect the innocent and to fight crime as the superhero: THE BABBLING BUBBLER!!!!

This strip gets weirder and weirder all the time, but sadly without much brilliance.

What a nice contradiction brought about by strip tropes.
