Not being familiar with US politics back then I’ve been wondering why Trudeau had his character supporting who I’m vaguely aware is connected to big business.
I love this story arc— but I’m a bit bummed that, as a 50+ year old separated guy, no hot 30-40 something is hitting on me like Kim is on Mike. Granted, I don’t live in Seattle and work for a tech company. Geekiness, however, I got.
Don’t tell me you will cut taxes. Explain to me how you will fund welfare, unemployment and war. Unless it includes putting everyone on welfare and unemployed in the military and having them work on infrastructure projects you’re not really the President for me.
Whatever happened to “The greatest good for the greatest number” as a goal? It’s turned into (or reverted to (or always really was)) the greatest good for the most powerful.
Archie Bunker referred to some people as communists. Gloria replied they were members of a commune, but not communists. Archie replied “People who live in communes are communists.”
Is anyone remarking on how Mike somehow loses his glasses in the last panel? Did they spontaneously disintegrate or get absorbed into his big eyes? They aren’t in either hand or on his keyboard
I used to be attracted to libertarian ideas. Being naturally a lefty and a bit of an anarchist type, I assumed that people left on their own would cooperate to ensure everybody was okay. Unfortunately, libertarians turned out to be right-wingers with the ideal of everybody being out for themselves. One of their party policies is that anybody can drive a car, regardless of age, health and knowledge. I’d be scared to leave the basement.

He was young and idealistic then. He’s middle-aged and worried about putting his kid through college now.

Boomers in a nutshell. A “commune to Pagan Reagan to holding a Nazi torch” journey of the spineless.

I was always confused by this: Is Trudeau a libertarian or was this to show that Mike is a bit deluded?

How to be successful in business: Maximize profits.
How to do that? Reduce expenses, increase revenues, or both.
So how does that translate to government? Reduce expenses = cut services. Increase revenues = raise taxes.
The last kind of person we should be voting for is one who claims (if not brags) that he’s “a successful businessman”.

Kim Il-Sung supposedly said that anyone can be a good Communist but give him people who show up to pick up the garbage every day at 6 a.m.

What’d they say in “The Big Chill”? “F’m if they can’t take a joke.”

I love Kim. I’m anxiously waiting for the strip where Mike’s worthless ex and her even more worthless “soul mate” first meet her.

I remember the Steve Forbes campaign, in which his posters and bumper stickers had more personality than the actual candidate.

Yeah. Hard Lessons from the ’60s: 1. Abbie Hoffman became a stock broker. 2. Hippies were NOT all about love. sigh.
