“I’ve had this phone almost a year….. Now my phone is old.”
Anyone else find that ridiculous? I’ve had my LG for years, and it still does everything necessary that the newer ones do. Play songs, surf the net, text or make/take phone calls. Track my bike rides via GPS and record them. and much more.
I don’t play games on it and wouldn’t on a new one either, so I do not need the fastest processor available. It only has one cam lens versus 3 on the new ones, but do we NEED that? The photos it takes look great.
Me, I’m still using a flip-top I had gotten back around 2015, because I’d decided at the time that I didn’t need a fancy expensive smartphone, I just needed something that made calls. Which it has done excellently the whole time I’ve had it, and it’s still chugging (despite I believe this particular model of phone being no longer in production).
Oh, no! “My phone, which works perfectly well, is almost a year old!!” With all the problems in the world today, this is an issue…!?
This is another reason why I call these devices StupidPhones™. Our society is dumbing itself down by becoming over-dependent on these electronic gadgets. Common sense has gone out the window when the phone zombies eagerly waste hundreds of dollars upgrading to a new device when there is absolutely nothing wrong with the old one.
The beginning of the downfall of our civilization has begun.
I generally run my phones for about 3 years. That’s usually as long as the battery holds out before it gives up. The problem now is that all of my phones have been Huawei which tend to be pretty reliable beats but a certain orangutan was sworn in as President who then decided to pick fights with everyone including Huawei.
I’m still using the Samsung flip phone I purchased 6 years ago. There are times when I’m tempted to replace it with one of those newfangled “smart” phones, but mine is cheap, doesn’t mind being dropped and easily fits into my pocket. I’m also afraid I’ll turn into a phone junkey if I buy a new smart phone.
Meanwhile, I’m over here with my 7-yo cheap phone that I only got because I got in a nasty bike accident and cracked my then-6-yo phone’s screen (even with an OtterBox case. Thing basically completely disassembled. Probably would’ve disintegrated without the OtterBox…)

Yep and pretty sure that a Unicorn needing an upgrade is an oxymoron:-D.

How far up is that? A+? A++? How many pluses?

Gotta admit, I’m thinking about a new phone. The plastic screen protector is starting to get hazy after 6 years…

I wouldn’t be too sure about that, Marigold. Twilight sparkle getting her wings in that one episode? I’d call that an upgrade.

I usually keep my phones until they die. Usually this happens three years after the purchase.

My phone is a 2016 model I had since 2017. Still does what I need it to do.I’ve had to replace the battery a few times and the battery life sucks.

I love Marigold’s reply, which is advice I wish more software developers would heed: “We are as up as it is possible to be graded.”
