a long time go I was a cook in the Allentown (Pa.) Hospital. The food made for the cafeteria was actually pretty decent and fresh and cheap! A lot of traditional Pennsylvania-Dutch recipes like stuffed cabbage, which I grew to appreciate. Howevre, the patients got their food delivered about 45 minutes after it was made on a food cart. The recipe book was something out of the Army, cooking for 300 or more people at a time. Being Italian, I had to modify a few of those recipes.

At my county hospital I was given a turkey patty that was so tough I could not cut it with the serrated plastic knive they gave me to cut it with.

Many many years ago, back in the 1980s, when my grandmother was in the hospital for an extended stay, my family ate there a lot and I rather liked it.

There’s a difference between what they serve in the cafeteria and what they deliver to your room.

I worked in three different hospitals in my career. All three had great soup in the caf.

I find they don’t really understand what this thing called diabetes is about. They serve too much sugar.
