Why not cloture by Senators with 55% of the voters?Spirit of the 17th Amendment.
IMO @JoeManchinWV is either a foolish Judas who will never get his promised silver or a coward who is being blackmailed.Manchin’s ONLY “principle” is himself.
Sometimes a well intended comment causes grief in the recipient because we can’t fully understand the complexity of their emotional responses to past trauma unless we have experienced it for ourselves.
I did 23 years in the Army. Ten in Infantry and Special Forces units, all male. The remainder in mixed units (Military Intelligence).
The issue of violence and disrespect to women is a very real one. It must not be tolerated.
There were many of us who did our best to give the female soldiers the respect and support that they deserve, and to STOMP hard on all inappropriate behavior. I believe BD would have been one of those guys. He’d never tolerate treating female soldiers as anything other than being another soldier.
Female soldiers don’t want special treatment. But they don’t want to be targets of fools, idiots and rapists. All they want is to serve their country, just like the men. BD knows and respects that.
Congress has once again failed to do its job and lead the military with courage, honor and dignity. If they don’t stand up for what is right, too many others will fail to do so as well.
Anyone who thinks that the right wing in this country supports “the military” must not realize that, by using that term, they aren’t referring to the troops, they’re referring to the big-business contractors who suck up most of the Pentagon’s annual ⅔ of a trillion-dollar budget.
Anyone who thinks that denigration, belittlement, and harassment of women is a problem unique to the military should mosey on over to today’s Non Sequitur to see it on full display in the business world as well.
BD is decent, therefore he supports and defends female soldiers. BD can be clueless. He therefore says such things as ‘’Hooah’ to a soldier suffering from sexual assault ptsd.

The bill has gone nowhere after being originally introduced by Senator Gillibrand (D-NY) in 2013.

Not a lot of comments today. This is a tough one. Doonesbury isn’t always funny. Today’s toon is more of an eye opener.

I don’t get this one at all. Is it a commentary on the perpetually offended?

You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all:
We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
But it’s “Saviour of ’is country” when the guns begin to shoot;
An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
An’ Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool — you bet that Tommy sees!
