some knuckleheaded nana decided to play stoplight with my dad’s car.. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!!!!! my dad’s a bit sore but he’s ok, that’s the good news. the bad news is.. HIS CAR WAS ALL JACKED!!!! now he’s trying to get a new car, while getting rides from family and friends.
An accident is something unavoidable. Most “accidents” could be avoided if people drove the way you should. Off the phone would be one thing. Not doing 100MPH would be another. How does a car flip on a straightaway? That’s on purpose, not accidental.
Just saw a news article about a 2 year old on a motorcycle. The mother says HE CAN’T REACH THE BRAKES!! I guess when he crashes that will be called an accident! And what about the handbrake! Of course you could flip that way.
we were just a minute or so away from home, heading toward downtown, when a geezer who shouldn’t be driving came out of nowhere from off to the right and almost clotheslined us. we swerved, he continued to finish his turn and went on his way, completely oblivious…
brought back memories of the time we were waiting for the light to change and a truck driver who was checking his phone when he should’ve been checking the road rammed three or four cars into the back of us and us into two or three cars in front. i still miss that car…
The last accident I had was when I was rear-ended while stopped at a traffic light – by a police car! The cruiser’s steel crash bar did a number on my trunk and rear end.
Unfortunately, for the two police officers in the car, there were too many witnesses for them to deny that it was their fault. The driver was on his cell phone texting his wife ( I found this out later on ) and the other was on the computer in the police car. Fortunately, for me, I wasn’t injured because a split second before they hit me, I realized that they were going tom and took my foot off the brake.
Needless to say, due to the embarrassing publicity that resulted – pictures in the local newspaper and brief snippet on the local television news – the city grudgingly … er … graciously paid for a rental car while mine was being repaired and of course, covered the repair costs with a minimum of hassle with my insurance company.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I had just purchased the car two days before the accident!
About 3-4 years ago, I got rear-ended three times in about 14 months. They were all in stop and go traffic. I am reasonably sure all three involved cell phones. After the first two (while driving alone), my wife was asking what I might have done to “cause” the accident. She was with me the third time. After the guy hit us, I turned and asked what could I have done to avoid this one. She stopped bothering me after that.
In the transportation planning world they are referred to as crashes. Due to roadway design or distracted driving there are very few “accidents”. Most are quite predictable. I believe the technical term for distracted driving is cellular-rectal disfunction.
Cars go into the ditch across the street from our place on at least a monthly basis. Usually because they’re driving too fast, or texting, or drunk, and don’t realize there’s a curve coming up, and before you know it, CRASH!

True coincidence is very rare.
