You were saying about no magazine making you do anything, Buckles? Though, to be fair, Paul wasn’t actually going to hit Buckles, he just looked like he was going to hit him to get the point across.
No dog should EVER be hit, or even given the impression they’re going to be hit, just to make them do whatever you want them to do ….. no matter WHAT it is! They’re love us un-conditionally and are a whole lot more loyal and forgiving of our human foibles than a lot of people are, so why would anyone think they deserve this kind of treatment? You can’t build bonds of love and trust with your dog through violence, intimidation and fear, and the very idea that Paul would use the threat of whacking Buckles with a magazine just to get the “proper dog stance out” of him not only makes me sad, it makes me feel positively sick too!
Obviously everyone is right abut hitting a dog. This strip was probably written in 1986. Not an excuse to hit a dog but an example of how things change.
This is how you get the trust of a dog, thought you might want to see this. Brought a tear to my eye that’s for sure:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqvbv2z_fEI
Come on, y’all. It’s a cartoon. Sure, it has parallels to real life, but it isn’t strictly real-life. It’s a mix of that and slapstick! Paul wasn’t trying to imply that he’d actually strike the puffball. Sometimes, we all need a subtle reminder that we need to respect our parental figures. Besides, Jill would break Paul’s arm before he even thinks of striking him on the head.

Only low-brained idiots abuse animals, so keep away from threatening that poor defenseless dog.

Proper dog stance? Is this for his ergonomic health or just an excuse to be bossy?
