Last I heard porcupines chittered and rattled their quills when they felt feisty. People muttered, Oh how cute! as they slowly backed away. Bears, on the other hand, usually didn’t need to do anything except appear on the scene. Most runners usually are heard to repeat that favorite old mantra OH $#&! OH $#&! as they raced for their cars.
Let me clue you in. You and the bear come quietly and just stare down the campers. They will cower together and watch while you rifle through their belongs and take all the food. — surviving camper of the 1973 visit by Yosemite’s notorious Pate Valley bear (who took all of my food). I didn’t notice if he had a porcupine sidekick.
