The Far Side had a strip like this, with the birds mentioning Hitchcock’s film before going toward their target on the park bench.

This could easily turn into a “trickle down” situation.

I’ve gotten pretty good at predicting how my friend the economist will approach issues that we end up discussing in the context of our charitable organization.

What’s the difference between an economist and someone who predicts the future by fondling goat guts?

Yup, it’s a boom market for hiring. But that don’t mean all companies pay very well or treat the employees very well. The management of the company I just left said it was the first time in the company’s 75 year history they’ve had to put a banner on the side of the building advertising job vacancies. Meanwhile, wages stay the same and the management just keeps getting worse. 3 people including myself left in less than 2 weeks’ time. 2 people said they were actively going on job interviews, 2 others said they started looking at want ads, and 1 other said on multiple occasions he was about ready to leave.

It’s like the PPP loans. While many small sparrows were helped there were a lot of fat vultures.

Maybe this could be one insight into Trickle Down economics. There is the old white man that was given a big hand out, which he is getting fat off of. All the “white” peons get crumbs. I suspect the sandwich is either turkey or chicken, representing the non-white birds, sacrificed for the pleasure of the old white man.

Naw, I think it is just a grumpy old man sitting on a bench trying to eat his sandwich.

An economics professor I had in college actually said, “People who cannot afford food and shelter are not entitled to them.” That was the day I dropped out of business school.

A long time ago, I read a piece about cinematic conventions of contrived storytelling. I don’t remember much of it, but it did include the French Bread Rule. In movies or television, at least those with a California setting, any bag of groceries must include a projecting baguette and/or bunch of celery. Wiley or his old-fashioned protagonist cleaves to tradition.
