That is pretty insulting, considering the fact that bees aren’t bugs.

All bugs are insects, but not all insects are bugs. Bugs are Hemiptera, which is an order of insect. Real bugs include stink bugs, bed bugs, water striders, and cicadas. Weirdly, some insects with “bug” in their name aren’t actually bugs, like ladybugs and June bugs (they’re both beetles).

Insects are a class in the phylum Arthropoda, which also includes arachnids like spiders. Insects, along with all arthropods, have segmented legs and exoskeletons. Unlike some other arthropods, insects typically have six legs, two antennae, and a body segmented into three sections (head, thorax, and abdomen).

Meanwhile, bugs have a straw-shaped mouth, or stylet, that they use to suck the juice from plants and blood from animals. They usually have long, segmented antennae and wings that are tough and dark where they meet the body and are thin and translucent at the ends.

Bees are Hymenoptera, like ants and wasps. Hymenopterans range in size, but usually have two pairs of wings. They have mouths with which they can drink liquids, such as nectar. They also have large compound eyes. Part of their hind wing has a number of hooked bristles, “hamuli”, which lock onto the fore wing, keeping them hooked together.

So Bees aren’t bugs. They are insects. All bugs are insects, but not all insects are bugs. This means School Picture guy and that random kid probably didn’t pay attention in science class, as they both referred to bees as bugs, while bees are actually Hymenoptera and bugs are Hemiptera, both different orders of Insect.

Big Nate. Double Trouble – Part 2, Chapter 2

Today, on the lunch break, I was waiting for my friends, who were getting their lunch. Suddenly, Jenny sat near me.

“Hey, Nate”, she said.

“Hey. Whatcha doing here?”

“Nothing. I’m waiting for Sheila, she’s in the toilet”.

“Same. What did you think of yesterday?”

“It was nice! Thanks for taking me there!”

“No problem!”

“Ok, see ya! Sheila’s coming!”

I thought to myself, that maybe I’ll take Jenny on that winter dance. But then again, I saw Artur standing in the corner, looking at me, like he did at the mall. He came to me.

“What do you want?”, I asked.

“You better stay away from Jenny”, he threatened.

“Why? You cheated on her once, so I don’t think she’ll trust you again”.

“Oh, really?”

“Yeah”.

Artur was about to punch me in my belly, but I said:

“Principal in the back!”

“Where?!”, he turned around.

Then, I ran away from my table and hid in men’s toilet. When I locked the cubicle, Artur came into the toilet too. I was nervous.
