Those two are NOT mutually exclusive. Critical Thinking could actually lead to (or help provide support for) a Conspiracy Theory.
Whereas, labeling something as a “conspiracy theory” (especially when someone says it is JUST a conspiracy theory) is meant to imply that it is crazy or that anyone who believes/supports it is stupid, a liar, and/or evil, a conspiracy theory can actually be true.
Someone who labels something as “just a conspiracy theory” may do so so that others (you and me) won’t look at it critically. Why? Maybe they know or suspect that there is (at least some) truth in what is being said – and that that doesn’t support their “agenda”.
So far they are not teaching “Conspiracy Theory and Practice” in schools but in college you can study “Critical Thinking”. Just don’t believe everything you read. :)
Ok, parents. This just in: if you really want your children to become critical thinkers, you don’t have to depend on schools. You are actually allowed to teach your children critical thinking skills at home, in the car, or anywhere else you happen to be together. In fact, parents, you can even teach your children other things that you want them to learn even if they are covering that subject in school.
I think “Critical Thinking” should read “Fact checking”That way it would be a more accurate cartoon, for when fact checked, many alleged conspiracies crumble into the nonsense that is behind them.

It’s getting so the movie “Idiocracy” is less of a satire and more of a reality every day.:/

Unfortunately only one of those is usually present in political supporters, much like athletic supporters
