The quote appears in slightly varying forms and circumstances such that it can be read as a preferred, chosen situation or as a very sad one.

When you’re famous, you can’t be left alone. Unless you retire.

The paradoxical enigma of a quest for fame.

This is why it’s better to be rich as opposed to rich and famous. If you’re rich, very few people know who you are, but if you’re rich and famous, you can’t be left alone.

Maybe you pursue a career as a one-hit wonder

That is why I want to be a famous author I can be idolized and left alone.
