I do about half of the cooking in our household, and gladly. My wife has a boring palate, and does not really work well with subtle flavors. She saves spicing things up for a different room in the house.
My wife suffers from dementia – began from stroke Doc says. I am the “chef” in the family. She does not “do” takeouts or “bringin” or quick food garbage. It’s cook meals or else. And not can goods either. WE both raised old school homes. Cook it or leave it. I am grateful.
Take out is OK but I am happy to cook anytime. I am definitely a better cook than my wife and she knows it, but she doesn’t like me cooking. That being said just call for a pizza, Chinese or fried chicken, they are always crowd pleasers and your Born Loser statuswill be diminished for at least one night….
My wife is a fantastic cook. Lesson learned-after I retired I continued to eat the same as I did when I was working. As a result my weight ballooned from 260(I weighed the same I did while in the Army from 1968 to 1998) to 412. After trying various diets, losing some weight but as soon as the diet ended I gained back all I had lost, plus some. So, using my wife’s health insurance(my federal Blue Cross refused to cover that type of surgery-total cost about $20,000), I got a Rou-En-Y gastric bypass in 2001. Now 20 years later I weigh between 220 and 230. Wife wants me to eat more, I OTOH, would much rather weigh less. The meals she makes however always work their magic-I can never say no. Now our youngest daughter, our SIL and our 6yo grandson show up a few times every week for a meal and after 3 years I can tell that they are all gaining weight. Heck of a problem, no?

Doesn’t matter what he gets as long as it’s not leftovers from behind the restaurant.

The good news is they will have a good meal for a change, instead of some of Gladys’ cooking.

I was the sous chef in my family. My wife was disabled but she was a good cook and baker.
