Oh, the railroad comes thru the middle of the house….A song written by Bob Hilliard, performed by Vaughn Monroe, and separately by Rusty Draper… in 1956.

I once looked at a house for sale with a realtor (owners not home)….when we went inside, I noticed the tv was on and set rather loud. The house was next to an interstate highway. (I passed on it). One of their tricks.

It should be easy to get used to, once you’re dead…

You may recall The Blues Brothers (movie) after Elwood takes Jake to his apartment. The El goes buy about every 20 seconds. Jake asks: “how often does that happen?” Elwood: “So often you won’t even notice.”

Nowadays even this would sell for 50% over the sale price. Real estate has just gone nuts.

When we bought our current home in lovely rural Killingly Conn., we didn’t realize train tracks were behind the houses on the other side of the street. Yup, a spur line or something of the Providence & Worcester RR.

But ya know what? It goes through slowly, it’s not screaming on the whistle crossing North St up around the corner, and guess what, it’s true, we DON’T really notice it any more. When I do, it’s a nice friendly “ka-chug ka-chug” up the tracks (OK, yeah, you can feel it too) for a minute or so and its gone. It’s kind of a visitor from a different era.

    I like it.
