Does she want to stay or does she want to go? I can’t decide if Janis is stressing the “Youre not” or the “are you?” – it makes a difference.

Fun things can happen in a hot tub, janis just wants to know how long they are going to last.

Haven’t been in a hot tub in years. They are nice.

He has in mind certain Archimedian experiments involving the displacement of water by large objects. Followed by a brisk game of Submarine in which she attacks when she spots the snorkel.

I’d think the conversation would make more sense if they actually were in a hot tub?

A bit of a CIDU, but she’s probably thinking about the hot tub right now and anticipating the ramifications. So is Arlo.

Am I missing something? There is no hot tub. Are they pretending to be in one? Is this supposed to be funny? I don’t see the point. No matter how I try to frame it, it doesn’t even make me smile.

It’d make more sense if they were actually IN a hot tub.

They don’t have a hot tub except of the mind.

Hot tub is lower right corner of panel 1, just off the deck. Come home, have a drink, chill and then get in the hot tub. They just haven’t got to the then part yet.

I have a sort of love/hate relationships with hot tubs. My last house had a hot tub that for a number of silly reasons I never really used and it stopped working. Ultimately I had to remove it. The new house we just moved into has a hot tub that has some sort of problem with it … which we haven’t been able to get someone to come out and fix. My wife really likes hot tubs so she is something of a woman on a mission on this – but it is looking like we may have to pull THIS one out too and just get a new one next year or something when we get the budget for it.

The skin absorbs water, swells, folds to deal with the extra area on the same sized body, reminds one of a prune.

Prunes’ shape is caused by the dehydration/drying of the body of a plum, yielding a smaller size body while outer area is unchanged. This forces folding/wrinkling of the skin to accommodate the topology.

Same effect, opposite causes.

(I just knew everybody was waiting with bated breath to read this.)

I agree with Tyge.

My best guess is- when Janis said, “You’re not going to let me get out of the hot tub, are you?” she meant: You’re not going to let me get out of my promise (spoken or implied?) to get in the hot tub, are you?

Or perhaps, if there was no promise: You’re not going to let us leave here without getting in the hot tub, are you?

Either way, Arlo just pretended to take her words at face value, and let Janis know that he was looking forward to a nice, long soak with her, etc!

If anyone missed it, Jojo explained earlier, said hot tub is to the right and adjacent to the deck as pictured in panel 1.
