I enjoy the idea of Hobbes relaying the fatherly advice he got when he was a kid. And it’s practical advice.

We seldom get to see a fierce Hobbes. I love this depiction in panel 2. Great art!

Do what I did in high school – show up for roll call, then sneak out when the coach isn’t looking. I got an A in PE.

Our school playground didn’t have any trees. It was covered in asphalt.

as far as i know there are no rhinos in india.

Running only works if you are trying to tire out the big guy until you can turn and kick him in the balls.

Fun Fact: Watterson initially gave Hobbes’ paws pads on the palms and fingers, but later decided they were too distracting and stopped using them.

Panel two; When animals are threatened they often make themselves “bigger” so as to appear as less desirable prey. maybe Calvin could go all Stupendous Man on Moe.

Women do seem to have a thing for survivors. :)

This early strip shows an art detail that was lost as the strip went on.

Watterson originally drew Hobbes with dark pads on his paws, as panel 2 clearly shows. He eventually decided it was too much work and too distracting.

I disagree, I still think it makes for a nice touch.

I’m kind of surprised we never see Hobbes’ dad or any of his family in this strip.

Moe should be exiled from this “comic” he ain’t funny. And Calvin, well Moe is a stresser he will make C. a horrible adult.

Hobbes is right. He generally has the best advice.

I think the closest Hobbes or his dad came to rhino was at the zoo

I agree completely with Hobbes, his logic is wonderful.

I don’t have a lot of experience with Tigers, but my impression is that I wouldn’t expect most of them to run from me.

In my book, sitting in a tree beats getting pounded – any day.

Impressive girls are unimpressed by people who are stupid enough to believe that impressive girls will be impressed by stupid actions.
