Even after MTM ended he voiced a number of animated characters. My favorites were on the D.C. animated universe. I think he even voiced Granny Goodness.
I saw a reading of Inherit the Wind at a local university once. Mr Asner was the key draw. After the performance, the cast sat on stools on stage and answered questions about both the history of the trial and their own careers. It was delightful.
Not to detract from Ed, but I loved the episode of “Hot in Cincinnati” where Betty white and the gang are meeting and finally Mary Tyler Moore walks in and Betty says, “Hey, you finally made it after all!”
Thanks you for this nice tribute. I have always loved Ed Asner. I had just watched the latest episode of Grace and Frankie on Netflix Sunday morning. I was happy to see him in it and wondered about his age but got sidetracked and failed to look it up. Then a couple hours later I got the notification of his death. Sad day.

With the correct font, no less. No one else could’ve played Mr. Grant the way he did.

The WaPo echoed the same scene (not surprising. I think that was one of the hooks that made it so popular):

I will miss Ed Asner. I enjoyed him in all the roles he had. 91 is a good life, blessings past 70.

Both Mary AND Lou are gone. Sigh! I HATE getting older.

This was an overnight substitution. The strip is currently a month ahead, so one of this week’s gags was booted until October.

Here is Ed Asner in his interview of Mary. How many heart attacks / lawsuits would HR have today?

Who remembers when Asner hosted SNL, and they did an MTM parody, in which he got to play Lou again? Mary was played by Mary Gross.

Ed Asner was in the 1966 Western film El Dorado with John Wayne, Robert Mitchum and James Caan. He played the villain, a rancher named Bart Jason.

MTM was a part of a great group of 70s sit-coms. WKRP, Bob Newhart, Barney Miller, and so on.

Goodbye Edward Asner who could be all types but was really a nice liberal kind of guy.
